Can't Catch a Break

I had already had enough of the coughing, sneezing, and sad eyes the flu season had brought to our house.  But then the vomiting and fever that will not go away appeared and everything has been downhill since.  My poor little pumpkin first got sick right before Christmas.  And with all the Christmas festivities and traveling I don’t think she ever fully recuperated.  Since getting back from Christmas the sniffles have continued and her little stomach kept getting upset.
Then this week hit.  A little fever started on Sunday, but a long nap seemed to do the trick and she was her usual happy self by the evening.  Brynn was getting excited for the next day, as Auntie Ashley and her had big plans since school was closed.  It was going to be a day of pancakes, the park, some arts and crafts, and a walk on the beach.  Monday started off great.  The sun was shining and Brynn having a great time at the park.  Then out of the blue, Brynn wanted to go home immediately.  Once home she insisted on a cup of milk and climbed into our bed.  Ashley listened and then POW!!  Brynn got sick all over her and our bed.  From there everything went south.  She started to run a fever, didn’t want to eat, and just laid there lethargic.  She took multiple naps that day and did not want to get out of her PJs.  By that evening, she had a high fever and a bad cough was starting.  I was up with her most of the night and by Tuesday she had an ear and potentially a sinus infection.  Off to the doctor we went.
Brynn is now on these nasty tasting antibiotics that she wants nothing to do with.  She has been sick for almost a month and layered on top of all of that, she got the touch of a stomach virus.  This poor little girl just walks around with sad eyes, a runny nose, and white as a ghost.  To lift her spirits after being cooped up in the house for four days (and to keep my sanity), we took a quick trip to ride the carousel and grab lunch to go.  Below is a picture of her with her bedhead getting her two minutes of fun before returning home to bed.

Christmas in South Dakota

We were lucky enough to be able to spend an entire week in South Dakota over Christmas.  Every day was spent with family and friends and being reminded of the joys of Christmas.  After a rough flight to Sioux Falls, the week kicked off with a lovely lunch with a handful of my girlfriends catching up, reminiscing, and making plans for our next gathering.  Christmas Eve was spent at my Uncle’s house on our family farm.  Brynn was so bummed when we pulled up and it was too dark and too cold for her to go in the barn to see all the animals.  But to her surprise right in the garage was a whole litter of little puppies for her to pet.  Christmas Day was spent with my Mom’s family with nearly all of us there to talk, laugh, and take a few snapshots with my Grandmother who is 85.

Eating Dinner

A couple of days later we celebrated Christmas with Cameron’s family where we got snowed in and the kids danced and played for hours.  Brynn is now at a fun age where she is remembering her cousins and can’t wait for the next time she gets to see them.  But unfortunately for her cousins, Brynn follows them around everywhere they go and always wants to be included – even if she is not big enough to join in on the fun.  Christmas at Cameron’s Grandma’s house is always one of my favorite traditions, as all of the families come together to catch up, play games and this year we even sang Christmas carols – what a great treat.  Then it was off to Grandpa’s house where the kids were able to run wild and chase the cats.

I did it!

Our trip ended with a lazy day where we had realized that because Brynn had been too sick to go outside she never got to experience the snow.  So we brought the snow to her.  My mom brought bowls and bowls of snow inside and we helped Brynn build her very own snowman.  At first she hated the cold tingling feeling it brought to her hands, but she finally got the hang of it and still prefers to use a spoon.  I can’t wait till next year when we can put her in snowsuit and let her run wild or likely cry because she is too cold.

Overall, we had a great holiday in South Dakota where we were able to spend quality time with our loved ones.  And as always, I wish we could have had a few more days to see more friends and family.  I hope you all were as blessed as we were this holiday season and got to be surrounded by your loved ones as we were able to do.

12 Days of Christmas

Christmas in the Belitz Family was a little insane this year.  We were completely overloaded with Christmas cheer and presents.  Brynn got absolutely spoiled and there is no way we can ever top the amount of gifts she received this year.  What I am calling the 12 days of Christmas are the 12 days/presents her grandparents and aunts and uncles continued to spoil this little girl with.  Every time I turned around Brynn was opening another gift whether it was before or after Christmas.  It all started with the Pre-Christmas festivities with a new kitchen and care packages containing Christmas PJs, dresses, and stickers.  I should have known right then, that I was in over my head.  And as Brynn proceeded to open and receive gifts it dawned on me that as a child there was no way I would have ever gotten away with opening gifts before Christmas morning.  But I was reassured by many of the grandparents that it was fine and that she “needed” these gifts before Christmas.  This way Brynn would not be overwhelmed on Christmas Day.  Brynn never got overwhelmed with the 12 Days of Christmas, only I did.

Where is all began.. But we could not get too close.

No Cold was Going to Keep Her Down

Our poor little pumpkin got sick the day of her Christmas program performance.  I was shocked that of all 8 preschool classrooms that performed, only 1 child cried and wanted off  stage.  And Brynn was no exception, despite me having to run her to the doctor the second her performance was over, she sang her little heart out.  And her best buds, Charlie and Kalin were standing right next to her singing just as loud.  It was so cute watching all of these little kids sing Christmas music and Happy Birthday to baby Jesus/Moses (Brynn gets the two confused frequently).

After the performance, Brynn had to miss her classroom party to go to the doctor.  My little princess had sad eyes and the start of a sinus infection.  Luckily for us, Brynn’s doctor gave us some antibiotics to make her start feeling better before we ventured on a plane back to the Midwest.  The antibiotics helped, but she really did not start to feel better till half way through our trip.
